LITURGY NEWS

BRING CANNED FOOD AT THE THANKSGIVING LITURGIES.
Celebrate Thanksgiving at Redeemer.  Invite your family members, friends and neighbors to the Lord’s House.  “God’s People Pray” as they thanks to Him who gives us all good things, including the forgiveness of sin, life and salvation in the Lord’s Supper.  The Liturgies are on
          Wednesday, November 26 at 7:30PM
          Thursday, November 27 at 10AM
Bring canned food to share with those who are hungry in our neighborhood.  Please make sure that the cans are not dented or damaged.  Also, please check the expiration dates on the cans so that they can be consumed.  Please do not bring food in boxes or bags; only bring food that is canned.  We shall present the food during the offering on Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS.
This year, the Property Board has decided to create a Christmas Flower Fund that will be used to put flowers in the sanctuary.  With our newly renovated space, the desire is to have floral pieces that accent the beauty of our worship space.  Contributions of $10 or more will help fund this project.  Donations may be made in memory of people or in thanksgiving for people or things.  The deadline for your contribution is December 14.   Please mark your check and envelope “Christmas Flower Fund” with a note indicating the memory or thanksgiving you desire.

CHRISTMAS NON-FLORAL DONATIONS.  As we are “Witnessing the Living Christ,” we may also make special Christmas donations to Redeemer that are not for Christmas flowers.  Simply indicate in whose memory or for what the gift is in thanksgiving so that it may be listed as well.  As always, you may always choose to give the gift anonymously.  The deadline for these gifts is December 14.

LET THE CHILDREN COME.
Redeemer remembers what Jesus says in St. Matthew 18:13-16, “Let the children come.”  To make it more convenient for the little ones among us to come, Redeemer is providing backpacks filled with items that we hope will capture and hold their attention during the Liturgy.   The yellow backpacks are designated for children who are 2 and 3 years old, and the green ones are for children 4 and 5 years old.  The backpacks are located under the Usher Shelf in the narthex.   The contents of the backpacks are to be placed back into the backpacks after the Liturgy when the backpacks are returned to the area under the Usher Shelf.   The contents of the bags are periodically changed, so be sure to check them regularly.  Also, if there are suggestions about things that could be included in the bags, please speak with Dr. LuJuana Butts.  Additionally, booster seats are available so that children may be able to see what is happening during the Liturgy.  Thank you to Dr. LuJuana Butts for facilitating this project.

REMEMBER TO PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS AND ALL SERVING IN THE WAR.

ANOINTING WITH OIL FOR HEALING.  After the Liturgies on the following days, the anointing with oil and the laying on of hands for healing will occur - December 6-7.

EDUCATION NEWS

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES MEET at 9:30AM for breakfast and 9:45AM for classes.  Be sure to join us since we have classes for ages 3 through 123!  Our Sunday School is supporting a local mission for the remainder of 2008.  We are contributing to Dr. Dawn Kirnon’s organization that purchases gifts for children with terminal diseases and children of parents with terminal diseases.  This directly relates to our “Witness” curriculum.

IF YOU WANT TO JOIN REDEEMER, NOTE THAT THE ADULT CATECHUMENATE HAS BEGUN.
If you are not baptized, not confirmed, not receiving Holy Communion or not a member of Redeemer, please speak with Catechist Cruz-Molina or Pastor about joining the Catechumenate.  Now is the time.  The group meets in the vestry.  Speak with an usher to ask for directions to that room if you do not know where that is.  Get serious about the faith and get grounded in the Word.  The Rite of Acceptance—the formal step—is on November 29-30, so be sure to get started today.

THE POST-CATECHUMENATE CLASS
has begun.  The theme is “Prayer” and it is led by Dr. LuJuana Butts.   Please feel free to speak with her if you have any questions about it.  This class meets in the rear portion of the nave of the church on Sundays at 9:45AM.

SEMINARIAN ROBBIE ROJAS WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.  He is doing well at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He is studying Greek, the language in which the New Testament was originally written.  Feel free to write him at rrojas9987@gmail.com.   Do not be upset if he cannot reply quickly since he is quite busy with his studies.  An encouraging word, a prayer, a Scripture verse or the like would be great to send his way.

THE 80th ANNIVERSARY JOURNAL IS AVAILABLE.  If you would like to purchase additional copies of the journal, this is how they are priced:
          1 Journal for $15                    2 Journals for $25         3 Journals for $30
and $10 for each additional journal after you purchase three of them.
If you would like a journal, please contact Dr. Butts or the parish office.

OUR 80th ANNIVERSARY PLEDGE DRIVE IS IN FULL SWING.    To fund the necessary improvements and mission outreach are doing in celebration of our 80th anniversary, we are endeavoring to raise one million dollars.  Part of that money is raised by means of your pledges of money that you give over and above your regular offerings.  Pray to the Lord for direction on what you will give for this project.  If you have any questions, please speak with Tora Cardarelli or Rosa Figueroa.

WE CONTINUE TO COLLECT BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION for The Lutheran School of Our Saviour in the Bronx.  If you have any, please bring them to the parish office.

THE PRAYER LIST. Please print prayers on the sheets posted on the wall in the undercroft.    Go by the wall and pray for people who are listed.  In that way, “God’s People Pray” at all times for all and with all who are “Witnessing the Living Christ.”
